Troutman/Wells Fargo Small Business Clinic

On Wednesday, October 15th, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Hygge Coworking, Charlotte Legal Initiative to Mobilize Businesses, Inc. (CLIMB) will partner with Mecklenburg County to offer cohort participants free one-hour legal consultations with a team of lawyers from Troutman and Wells Fargo.  During the consultation, you will meet with a corporate or business law attorney who can answer questions you may have about forming your business, entering into partnerships, limiting your business and your personal liability, contracts, and other general legal topics for entrepreneurs.

Examples of questions and topics:

• What is the best legal structure for your business? Sole proprietorship ? LLC? Corporation? Make an informed decision on the legal structure best for a business based on an understanding of the difference in cost, complexity, flexibility, control, and tax treatment. 

• Personal and business liability issues- avoiding risk

• Corporate governance documentation, such as bylaws and operating agreements.  

• Understanding of the importance of observing corporate formalities such as separation of business and personal finances. 

• Going into business together: the importance of a partnership agreement

• What contracts might be helpful to have in place for your business, and the importance of putting it in writing

• Your rights and obligations under any current business contracts you may already have in place

• Common terms and provisions in business contracts and what they mean
